Enhancing complex, large-scale systems

This multidisciplinary research area deals with the interactions within complex systems, integrating knowledge and methodology from other, traditional civil engineering disciplines. Projects in this area aim to improve performance and reduce the life-cycle cost of facilities and infrastructure by addressing planning, design, construction, and management challenges.

Active research areas include:

  •  Air traffic management
  • Disaster recovery
  • Intelligent transportation systems
  • Large scale data compression for inftrastructure databases
  • Multiobjective planning
  • Systems engineering modeling and software architecture
